YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship 2025 (full funding)
The US government’s flagship program, the Mandela Washington Fellowship for YALI, is set to send up to 700 young leaders to the country in the summer of 2025. This fully funded six-week exchange program aims to develop young leaders through professional networking, training, and academic coursework. Participants will gain new skills, and colleagues will be equipped to take on leadership roles in their communities and industries. At a college or university in the United States, Mandela Washington Fellowship recipients will participate in rigorous Leadership Institute coursework.

Economic benefits
The following financial arrangements will be made by the US Government:
- J-1 visa assistance
- Domestic transportation and round-trip airfare from the partner’s hometown to the United States
- A six-week program in leadership

Conditions of the Mandela Washington Fellowship

Time table

An overview of the Mandela Fellowship
A six-week course on leadership: In groups of 25, fellows will be sent to several prestigious educational institutions in both rural and urban areas of the United States.
Fellows will study at American schools and universities in the fields of business, civic engagement, or public management
Nelson Mandela Washington Fellowship Summit in Washington, DC: In July 2025, all Fellows will gather for a high-level summit following their experiences at the Leadership Institute. Through a range of interactive sessions, the event will provide opportunities to network with other attendees and prominent US leaders from industry, government and nonprofit groups.
Four-Week Optional Professional Development Experience (PDE): Fellowship applicants may choose to apply to participate in a PDE at a government agency, corporation, or nonprofit organization in the United States. Up to 100 candidates can apply for this.
Opportunities for alumni: After completing their fellowship, fellows will have access to volunteer work, continuing professional development, and networking opportunities.
