Duration of Fellowship
Fellowships have a maximum duration of between two weeks and 52 weeks.
- Fellowship events in Australia must take place in Australia for a minimum of two weeks.
- Activities in Partner Country: Activities in the partner country must commence within 4 months after fellowship activities in Australia have ended.

Benefits of the Australia Awards Fellowship
Australian organizations can apply for funding of up to $34,500 per fellow through UD. In 2025, fifteen fellows will receive invitations to Australia.
Funding includes:
- Return to Australia, air travel and all forms of transport
- Training expenses
- Accommodation and living expenses
- Health insurance costs during the visit to Australia (especially for fellowship holders)
- Special assistance for persons with disabilities
- Fees for program overhead.

Qualifications for the applicant
You need to: To be eligible for an Australia Awards Fellowship.
Age: At the start of the fellowship, you must be at least 18 years of age.
Residence: You must not be the partner of someone who is a permanent resident of Australia or is seeking permanent residence.
Citizenship: Be a citizen of one of the eligible countries.
Not currently serving in the armed forces.
Meet the conditions set by the Department of Home Affairs to be eligible for a subclass 500 (DFAT-sponsored) student visa.
Participation: Have the ability to participate fully in the fellowship.
Travel: As DFAT funds and supports companion visas individually, travel without family.
Assistance for Disability: You must travel with a carer if you have a disability that requires assistance.

Southeast Asian countries that qualify include Timor Leste, Vietnam, Malaysia, Burma, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
The Middle East and South Asia include the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iraq, Jordan, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Pacific: Wallace and Futuna, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Tonga
Africa: Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe
